Much of the archive's collection portrays the region at leisure. Film material produced by families, groups of friends and community organisations offer a picture of outings, day-trips, picnics, vistis to parks and gardens, sporting events, parties and many other leisure-time activities.

[Children at Play]
This black and white portrait of a young family shows, in some detail, games being played by young children in a garden. Scenes from a trip to a boating lake are also featured intermittently.

In a collection of family scenes children play with toys in the garden as their parents look on, and take part in a school sports day, before a trip to the seaside featuring boating and donkey rides. Later back at home, a garden picnic, a game of women's golf putting, children driving toy cars and camping under a tent with a picnic.
Film of the Staley family on holiday in Snowdonia, Wales. Ralph Staley films workings on a sheep farm and his family on the seafront, where ten year old Pam practices driving on the beach. They walk up mount Snowdon and take picnics in the countryside. A final section, in Dufaycolor, shows the family at Lake Bala [?] taking walks and stopping for tea.

This black and white film shows a group of young men on a trip to Swanage, Devon. The group use the Sandbanks to Shell Bay chain ferry, stay at the Hotel Grosvenor and go on a driving trip through the Devon countryside.

This film shows the 8th Forest Hill Scout group parading and undertaking a series of events in their group hall, followed by shots of a group of Guides (8th Forest Hill company?) behind their parade troop. The film also shows the Cubs and Scouts, and their group leaders, gathered in the street outside their church.

Boat Trip; MS Stella Polaris
Film by Ralph Staley of a cruise with his wife Nellie aboard the Norwegian liner MS Stella Polaris. They stop at the port of Stockholm, and Copenhagen amongst other destinations. On board, deck coits and other games are played, passengers relax on deck, and Nellie is seen washing in their cabin and looking out to sea from a window. A Finnish boat/plane (OH-ALK) is seen leaving the shoreline adjacent to the ship at one of the stops.
