Our Movie Album

An intertitled family film showing two boys exploring the town of Hastings, visiting the seafront, the Pier, Pavilion and Bandstand. Later the children go to Alexandra Park to play at a playground and visit a boating lake. In London they visit the South Bank for the Festival of Britain Exhibition, touring several popular landmarks. Other scenes include Christmas activities, a visit to a film premiere, and a commuter ride on a train.

Eastertime

An extended and intertitled film showing two boys going on an outing to Hastings, visiting the gardens at White Rock with views of Hastings Pier, Pavilion and Bandstand; followed by an outing to the Pett Levels on a bus.

Holiday in May

A film showing a family holiday opening with two boys visiting a playground in Gensing Gardens (St Leonards-on-Sea), the towns of Rye, Battle, and Eastbourne; closing with a visit to Hastings Castle and gardens.

A Good Yarn

This film shows the industrial process of making branded "Silver Star" medium bailer twine, for use on agricultural farms, to bind bails of straw or hay using a mechanised bailer. Scenes show the process from the delivery of the raw material, to the final product being used by a farmer.

The Universal Exhibition Brussels

This film shows views of the: "Exposition Universelle et Internationale de Bruxelles" or Expo 58. Scenes include shots of the pavilion buildings and outdoor exhibits with 'Atomium' structure, fountains, Canadian Pavilion, USSR Pavilion (Soviet Union), USA Pavilion, aerial tramway, a fashion show on a floating platform, views of the gardens and Thai Pavilion; French Pavilion; UK Pavilion with Public House "The Britannia" (Whitbread); a Cinema; and illuminated night time views. Stand 57: Sussex County Agricultural Show at Eastbourne

A narrated film showing the construction of the Louis G. Ford Ironmongers stand (no. 57) at the Sussex County Agricultural Show held in Eastbourne (Hampden Park). A group of men lift and set a 50FT "Dexion" slotted angle metalwork frame tower, and dress the stand for the show. Scenes include panoramic shots of an empty field from the top of the tower, followed by views of a busy show ground with public visiting the trade stalls during the show.

Bexhill Donkey Races

This film shows the first ever Rotary International Donkey Derby on Little Common, Bexhill. The event organised by the local Rotary and Donkey Racing clubs, feature donkeys from across Sussex and Kent. Other attractions include visits from the Pearly Kings and Queens, carriage side-shows and balloon races. The voice-over states that the film is a record of the day's event as created by Ray Young & David Carr (?).[Due to copyright reasons, the film has been made mute for online use]

Steam Engines

This film shows a series of East Sussex based steam rallies that includes a mix of steam traction engines, transport, commercial vehicles from across East Sussex plus a fairground organ . Note: The first scenes have a red colour cast to the image, full colour then returns.

[Our First; Family Album]

This family film shows several outings to the seaside at Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea including: a visit to St Leonard's Pool or Lido; a stroll along the seafront at Marine Parade; a visit to the amusements in Hastings Old Town; and a visit to the Pier at Eastbourne. The final scenes shows the family on the rides at a Funfair in London's Battersea Park. The four towers of Battersea Powerstation are visible over the tree tops behind the amusements.

Spring

A film of various domestic family scenes in Spring that include pets, trees and flowers in bloom and a trip to Eastbourne seafront with the pier, and a boat moored on the beach. This is followed by a view of Eastbourne's 'Carpet Gardens' and a large modernist style clock face. [possibly continued on TID: 5723]

Taunton Journey

This edited film shows a journey between Bexhill-on-Sea and several English counties that includes Salisbury in Wiltshire, Bristol and Taunton in Somerset, Cheltenham Spa in Gloucestershire, and Reading. Views from the vehicle includes various churches and town street scenes, as well as views of other road traffic, transportation vehicles and fire engines. Shots mainly between two cars travelling in convoy. A map illustrates the journey between the counties.

Winter Sport; [Christmas]

This film shows a family group playing in the snow and celebrating Christmas at home, with a traditional family meal and shots of the decorated living room adorned with Christmas cards, decorations and a tree. The second part of the film shows a Boxing Day (?) fox hunt. The Huntsmaster and hounds are gathered on a rural street. The film follows the hunt along part of the route.

[Fairlight & Flowers]

An intertitled film showing several family outings that includes Alexandra Park in St Leonards, Hastings seafront and Hastings Old Town with Castle on the hill. This is followed by a visit to Fairlight; with views of the countryside and sheep with lambs. (possibly continued on TID:5724).

[Southern Air Frame Products]; Sports Day

This film shows scenes of a marquee being erected for a trade show or similar by Southern Air Frame Products on the Western Lawns, followed by scenes of various sports events including a Cricket match, three-legged races and several egg and spoon races. The second part of the film shows a group of women dancing in pairs, a Swing band playing for the crowd, a game of Tennis, and children playing a game of Pin the Tail on The Donkey.
