Captain Cyril R. Peckitt created this visual record of life in Karachi whilst he was stationed there with the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment in the early 1930s. The film includes images of the journeys to and from Pakistan, of Regimental activities, and of the Karachi itself. It provides a fascinating record of Regimental life in Asia during the latter stage of the Empire.

Boat Trip; MS Stella Polaris
Film by Ralph Staley of a cruise with his wife Nellie aboard the Norwegian liner MS Stella Polaris. They stop at the port of Stockholm, and Copenhagen amongst other destinations. On board, deck coits and other games are played, passengers relax on deck, and Nellie is seen washing in their cabin and looking out to sea from a window. A Finnish boat/plane (OH-ALK) is seen leaving the shoreline adjacent to the ship at one of the stops.

This amateur film contains images of animals, notably extreme close-ups of caterpillars and their larvae, and of a woman feeding doves. It also has footage of two holidays - the first is a touring holiday of the Welsh countryside, the second a city break to Brugge.
Amateur footage from the late 1930s of the buildings, bridges and canals of Venice. The film-makers capture the atmosphere of the city, filming it both from land-level and from a moving gondola.

Sweden August 1938
Captain C. R. Peckitt of the Royal Sussex Regiment records a family holiday to Sweden just prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. The holidaymakers visit Stockholm, go sailing on a yacht, traverse the locks on a canal on a steamer, and stop at Jönköping before returning home on the S.S. Britannia.

A compilation by a local amateur cameraman, portraying the passing from peace to wartime. Shot just prior to and during the first year of the Second World War, the film provides a snapshot of everyday life as it continued against the backdrop of the impending war, and signs of the war’s effects around the village.
[Navy in Egypt]
This film features a series of of street scenes in Egypt that includes a visit to the Italian monument to Khedive Ismail in Alexandria (now memorial to the unknown soldier). This is followed by wide shots showing a series of naval ships at sea and on the Suez Canal. The final part of the film shows mixed views of the Suez Canal that includes the 1914-1918 War Memorial on West Bank, near Ismailia.
