The result is a programme of archive films entitled ‘The Woods and Us’ which is screening in the gallery throughout the exhibition. It was curated and written by Fresh Perspectives team members: Ella Alemayehu-Lambert, Georgia Hunter, Ethan Lamb, Savannah Outram in response to Eliasson’s work, the forest, woods and environment and combines six SASE archive films made between 1930 and 1970. In their own words:
” ..we have explored scenes of our local woodland and the relationship people have with the woods through changing of the seasons, craft and recreation. The films provide an authentic insight into our use of the woods; from the domestic to the practical. The intimacy of the archival footage highlights the deep connectivity we have with our local woodlands. Life in the rural south east is romantically captured as we see the beauty of the natural and agricultural world.”
