The Magic Lantern Today – Creative Re-Use of Cultural Heritage workshop in Antwerp attended by SASE Archivist Ine van Dooren was an inspiring event for contemporary lanternists, curators, artists and researchers.
Karin Bienek and Ludwig Vogl illustrated their creative interpretation in a lantern show called The Flying Dutchman, incorporating slides, text by Heinrich Heine and opera music by Richard Wagner.
Artist Sarah Vanagt was inspired by the Vrielinck collection in the Antwerp Museum for Contemporary Art to create a new installation to reproduce some of the earliest microscopic pictures. Using five magic lantern projections, two video projections, a transparent fish egg, two cat’s whiskers and a small piece of copper paper.
This event was part of the Million Pictures European Research Project.
