CINECITY the Brighton Film Festival

Opening 10th November this year’s Festival once again brings the best in world cinema, premieres, previews, artists’ moving image and live cinema. Two archive treats:

A performance by Brighton’s New Note Orchestra, the first recovery orchestra in the world.  A new film work using archive film exclusively from SASE will be screened with a live improvised musical performance from the orchestra.  The film work explores the condition of solace as understood by the orchestra’s members, all who are in recovery from drug and substance abuse.

Sallis Benney Theatre, Sat 25 Nov 6.30pm.

A unique programme of newly digitised versions of films from the early 20th century recovers a lost world of colour film.  Frank Gray, Director Screen Archive South East introduces the system invented by George Albert Smith in Hove and Southwick circa 1903 and the Cineteca di Bologna programme featuring thirteen digitally restored titles from black and white nitrate positives.  Curated by the Cineteca di Bologna with a recorded score, music composed by Daniele Furlati.

Duke of York’s Cinema, Sat 18 Nov, 2pm
