Summary

This film shows views of several Cubs and Scouts preparing camp on Ashenground campsite, (Balcombe and Slaugham ?) followed by views of various activities, a prize-giving presentation and views of the woodland plants and flowers around the site.

Description

This colour film opens with views of Cubs and Scouts tidying the Ashenground campsite and making a fire. Mixed views follow of the Scouts using a winch to raise a structure. Cubs are seen building a tent shelter and erecting a cup holder, and several senior leaders are seen talking to a group of Scouts. A group of Rover Scouts cook a meal, and there are wide views of the camp.

The next scenes shows various Scout troops gathered in a clearing (Cuckfield and Haywards Heath) followed by shots of the groups undertaking various activities, including Scouts and Guides in a field (animal tracking ?) occasionally appearing over the tall grass as they stand up and a group of Scouts (Blue/Red neckerchief ?) practising semaphore signals. A series of mixed shots of camp life follows, including: a brief view of a bowl filled with a pudding; Rover Scouts and Scouts together and in individual portrait shots, gathering at the camp fire to collect their meal.

The next scene opens with wide shots of a forest floor covered in a carpet of bluebells, followed by views of the troop packing up the camp to prepare to leave as two older Guides (?) (one in a green top ?) clean stove cooking pots together. The scene ends with a group of Scouts on a walk in full uniform and backpack through tall grass (tracking exercise ?).

The next part opens with a wide view of the Ashenground site, followed by a group of Scouts (Green neckerchief) being inspected by two senior Scout leaders (?) and the group joining two other Scouting groups (in plain blue and blue and red neckerchiefs) around the camp to be presented with a cup (?) by a man in a suit behind a table.

The film ends on a portrait shot of six Scouts (1st Haywards Heath troop ?) holding the cup (Wivelsfield Camp Hardy Cup?).
