Summary

A film of Scouting activities on several camps including Southwood and Fox camps, with a series of shots of activities including setting up camp, chopping firewood, games and sporting activities.

Description

This film shows a series of activities on the Southwood and Fox campsites, with shots of the Boy Scouts standing next to a river (Southwood Camp?), having a picnic in a field next to cars and boating together. A man is seen eating a meal in a field, followed by portrait shots of a boy with a toddler and children waving at the camera. A family group is seen with scouts and guides gathered together in a field.

The next part shows a brief shot of a Scout troop on parade; they are then shown climbing into the back of a van, sharply cutting back to the Southwood Scout camp field with tents and a first aid unit. The Scouts are seen filling water buckets using a manual pump, eating a meal, washing dishes and Kayaking and boating on a river. The boys also take part in a series of races and games including sack races, foot races, a piggy back race, and a a series of tug of war events on the Fox (?) campsite. The shot then cuts to a man making pastry in an outdoor kitchen followed by portrait shots of groups of boys on the (Fox ?) campsite outside their tent. The first group stand next to a tent marked as 'Lightening', the second with their falcon team flag and a sign 'Meteors' (?); a third group stand with a rat (?) flag, below a sign that reads: 'Chief Woodman'.

The next section opens with a series of shots of the boys taking part in a rugby scrummage, followed by a series of races and games on camp and the group sitting together for photographic portrait shots of the Scout pack. The final scenes show individual shots of two older Scouts chopping wood and a large group of Scouts around a campfire fire singing together, being conducted by their scout pack leader (shot gets progressively darker as night falls).
