This film shows the Shell Brook Waterworks and development by contractors Shephard Hill, in preparation for the Ardingly Reservoir (between Balcombe and Ardingly, West Sussex). Mixed views of the site being cleared with heavy construction machinery and workmen installing pipework completes the film.

This film opens with a title: 'Work begins on reservoir between Balcombe and Ardingly'. Construction vehicles arrive on site and dig the new reservoir. Views of the old Shell Brook Waterworks in need of repair, and the Shell Brook stream flowing into the River Ouze (?). Workmen on site lay new pipe-work with heavy machinery. Panoramic views show the site under construction with construction traffic moving about.

Several panoramic views then show felled trees next to the brook, an old man sitting on a wall surrounded by felled trees and cleared woodland.

A family stand on the edge of the newly completed Ardingly reservoir, with people fishing and boating on the water. A young boy plays with fallen trees and films with his camera. The film ends on a brief shot of a man filming the scene with a camera and an end title 'The End'.
