Summary

Brighton & Hove seafront scenes, taken in Winter during stormy weather and rough seas, and after a heavy snowfall, by Michael Gillings in around 1964.

Description

Stormy seas rage at Brighton and Hove seafronts. The water crashes over the groynes, spray reaches up and over the railings at Hove Lawns. The fountain at Old Steine, and surrounding trees and flower beds, are blanketed in snow. Ships move through Shoreham Harbour, including the ARN X Hamburg and an Esso vessel. Speed boats, fishing boats and sailing boats move through the water. Stormy seas at Roedean crash up to the Undercliff Path, taken from the newly built Brighton Marina wall at Black Rock. Roedean School stands above the cliffs. Children ride miniature vintage cars at the Aquarium's amusements on Brighton Seafront.
