An amateur compilation filmed at Patcham Middle School Sports Day by Michael Gillings, with later scenes filmed by Neville Gillings showing his friends on an outing to a farm with his father's camera, in around 1984.
This school film opens with pupils participate in running races at Patcham Middle School Sports Day. Boys attempt to ride the slowest race on their BMX bikes without falling off. Others compete in a hurdles race. Mothers of children at the school sprint across the track, all wearing summer dresses. Fathers of children at the school sprint next, wearing trousers and shirts. These races are fiercely competitive. The fancy dress sack race and relay races follow.
Later children at Patcham Middle School climb on board a minibus, on their way to a farm for the day. This footage is quite shakey and unfocussed most probably filmed by Neville, the son of Michael Gillings.
In further footage shot by young Neville, classmates sit atop a stack of hay and straw bales in a barn, waving and displaying "peace" signs at the camera. They climb up the bales and have a water fight on the hay. The film closes with an 'The End' title.
The final scene shows a brief unfocussed and titled animated sequence, made by Nevile of a series of Dinky cars on the garden lawn.
