Summary

Stanley Dudkin films girls at a Barnardo's home performing ballet and folk dances, and documents games at a garden fete in 1968.

Description

A young girl performs a dance in costume on the grass outside at a Barnardo's home, possibly Droveway Corner in Hove, which opened as a girl's hostel in 1968 and closed in 1971. She starts to spin and kick her legs. Another girl performs a ballet routine in a tutu. An other girl performs a folk dance in elaborate traditional costume. A pair of girls perform a duet for the audience, playing out a dramatic scene. Children play on playground equipment, swings and slides, and eat toffee apples and ice creams at a garden fete. Tables are laid with second hand books and toys to buy, and games to play. A woman woman dressed as 'Madame Eva', a fortune teller, sits with her crystal ball outside a wendy house. Children in fancy dress stand in a line.
