A compilation of home movie material from the early 1930s. Whilst on leave from their medical posts in Malaya, doctors Thomas and Catherine Violet Burne record family gatherings, holidays and school events in England.
The Burne children, Diana, Thomas and Anne are filmed enjoying various leisure pursuits. They join friends and cousins in the garden, on the beach and in the sea at Seaford; play lawn tennis, cricket and with paper planes; and perform several plays for the camera. Some of the footage is filmed in the grounds of Loynton Hall, the Burne ancestral home. Parents watch as Diana performs gymnastics exercises and The Dance of the Seven Veils with her classmates at Downe House School. There is also footage of the animals at Whipsnade Wild Animal Park.
Fashion Notes: The film is rich in its footage of children’s everyday clothing for a range of activities, including girl’s exercise outfits. The film also shows examples of children’s bathing suits and swimming caps.
