Summary

Scenes of Whitby Abbey, women practicing facial expressions for the camera, and children in the snow, filmed in the 1930s.

Description

An aircraft takes off from an airfield. The camera pans across a country house, reach a maid holding a bucket beside the back door. She disappears into the house, appearing again at the first floor window, making faces at the camera. The ruined abbey at Whitby, North Yorkshire, is seen. The camera pans across windows and columns, without a roof or vaulting. Views of the tombs follow. Close-up scenes of a woman trying out different facial expressions for the camera follows. Another woman looks at the camera and away from it again, eating sweets and turning her face one way and the other. Another looks at herself in a hand mirror, adjusting her hair. In colour footage, a woman rides a horse across a paddock by some stables. Snow scenes in black and white follow. Several children move across the snow in skis and sledges.
