The Markwick children take a trip on a miniature railway with their father, who also films steam trains and traction engines.

A "phantom ride" opens the film, in which the camera passes along the railway track, fixed to the front of the train. The train passes under a bridge, moving backwards at a station to be refilled with coal, and pulling empty freight carriages. The Markwick Children, David and his sister, are seen picking flowers in the garden. In colour scenes in St Leonards, a miniature railway passes by, also seen from an elevated position. The train and passengers move towards the camera and away. Two children ride behind their father. Further steam engine footage follows, at a traction engine show in a field and a the Bluebell Railway.
