This amateur film captures scenes of children playing in the grounds of Fernhurst School in the late 1930s. Clearly excited by the presence of the film-maker, the children pose in large and small groups and play up for the camera. Scenes from a nearby wedding at the Parish Church are also recorded, as well as a football and netball match.

[Kodak Safety Film]; a large group of schoolchildren are seen gathered in front of the camera, the children make silly faces, clearly excited that they are being filmed. A woman sits on a chair in the street next to a sign, a woman puts something into a basket next to the sign. Children of all ages are seen running in the street. The film cuts to scenes of a football match on a field [red tinged shots], girls play hockey next to the school. Children climb over the school fence; they are seen sitting and standing next to it, posing for the camera - the school can be seen in the background. More scenes of children climbing over and through the school fence, they look excitedly towards the camera. A truck reverses along the road and children jump down from the back of it, they are helped down by a man wearing a flat cap. The film returns again to scenes of the children sitting on the school fence and gathered in a field; they fool around and play in small groups. The woman seen earlier sits next to the basket, a woman puts another item in it. A small group of girls stand nearby posing for the camera. At the Parish Church, a newly wed couple can be seen emerging from the building to greeted by lots of guests. Confetti is thrown over them as they make their way to a wedding car parked on the road. Back at the school, girls and boys are standing on the fence in front of the camera; they laugh and fool around. The film cuts to the same truck seen earlier, driving off along a street with some children inside. The film ends with scenes of the children playing in the school grounds; a boy at close-range points to the camera. The children make their way back inside the school building.
