Colour film showing numerous locomotives and stations in the last days of steam in the South East of England. The film features trains on the Cuckoo line, on Southern Railway lines in East and West Sussex, and visits the steam lines on the Isle of Wight.


A locomotive stands at Eastbourne station [80144?]. Several steam trains are seen in motion including locomotive: “80034”. Various Cuckoo Line stations are filmed including: Hellingly, Horam. Heathfield, Mayfield, Rotherfield and Mark Cross. A signalling post is seen near Tunbridge Wells West. The locomotive: “The Mohican” [?] is seen along with the “Cuckoo Flyer” (80141). Scenes at a steam event, including locomotives: (34050). (34050).

At East Grinstead station is locomotive (31803) Signs read: “The Wealdsham Rail Tour” and “Redgate Mill Junction” showing the signalling box. At a Railway Event is locomotive (31803). At Hastings station is locomotive (31411). The Steyning signalling box is seen followed by a sign: “Southern Railway, Beware of trains”. At Brighton station is locomotive (34104). At Hove station there is a sign for the “Last steam to Eastbourne”. At Brighton are locomotives (34108). (34089), for “The Reunion Rail Tour”. The 34089 bears the emblem and name of the “602 Squadron”. The film then shows the last steam trains from Brighton to Salisbury in 1965. The film shows Worthing Central station, Brighton station in the mist, Chichester station, and Brighton again in the evening, then passing Haywards Heath. There are scenes of an event in Brighton. At Chichester are locomotives: (34002). (33020). On the Isle of Wight are stations 'Cowes', 'Wroxall' and locomotives: 'Fishbourne' and 'Ventnor'. "Last Day of Steam (1889 - 1966) LSWR". Baynards signalling box is seen before passing Petworth station. The LCGB 31866 is seen. Stations for Horsham, Partridge Green and Steyning are passed.

In a wintery landscape there is snow on the tracks. Guildford station scenes are followed by film of a freight train at Folkington, near Polegate and finally Berwick.
