Woolsey family scenes at home in the garden of their house in Shirley, near Croydon, in Surrey, while visiting friends in Cambridge, and on holiday to St. Mary's Bay, near Dymchurch, in Kent, at the beach and miniature railway, across the years 1949 and 1950.

A young Ian Woolsey walks on the beach at St Mary's Bay, near Dymchurch, with his parents. He plays in the shallow breakers and crawls across the sand. Views of the Bridge of Sighs crossing the River Cam in Cambridge follow, taken while on a punt down the river. They pass Kings College, seen from the river. The women talk and smile, relaxing on the boat. Kenneth is seen with baby Ian in the family garden at home on the outskirts of Shirley near Croydon, crawling across the lawn and walking with the aid of his father's steady arm. Kenneth's vegetable garden and the pigs he kept are seen from an elevated position. Three young children sit together on the lawn with the family cats. One of the children pushes Ian on his toy bike in the garden. Views through the cloisters and panning shots of prestigious colleges in Cambridge follow. A couple punt under the Bridge of Sighs. Ian pushes a toy horse across the lawn, now walking on without aid, in the garden. He stands by the chickens, feeding the them leaves through the chicken wire fencing. He picks flowers with his grandmother, Agnes, and blows dandelions. He is seen in the garden tucking into a large chocolate Easter egg. Beach scenes at St. Mary's Bay follow.

Ian digs in the sand with a young girl with a ribbon in her hair. They run towards the camera and through the shallows with their parents. The family garden and house at Shirley are seen, blanketed with snow, in panning footage. Ian is seen in the garden, holding up a leather handbag and a black umbrella. He is given an Easter egg. He opens the egg to find a chocolate bar, which he eats, waving to the camera. He is seen with a toy wheelbarrow and gardening tools, which he starts to use in the garden. He rides a tricycle on the garden path. Miniature Railway scenes at Hythe follow. The family wave from a carriage as the train speeds past. A group of women and children walk through the zoo, past farm animals and seals. The children play on a rocking horse ride.
