A short film showing activities at a fete and a few days later the HM The Queen’s visit to Chichester in 1956

The film includes scenes of stalls and people at the fete, a stall for the ‘Chichester Amateur Operatic Society’, a giant tombola and a giant football game. A vehicle dressed to look like a train (with a face on the front and and image of Pinocchio on the side) pulls a carriage full of children. Members of a uniformed band stand and talk outside a tent, some women play an unseen game and a man stands with a balloon. The second section of the film shows the streets in the centre of Chichester decorated for the arrival of HM The Queen, Elizabeth II. Flags and shields are displayed on the buildings and strings of bunting criss-cross the streets. At ‘Priory Park’ a crowd is seen waiting and there is a display by the Military Police. Dignitaries arrive, a marching band plays and the Queen is seen in the distance arriving and inspecting the troops. The film ends with The Queen and HRH Prince Philip walking past.
