Summary

Scenes at the Church of St. Peter in Upper Beeding and at home in Worthing, taken by John Smith on the wedding day of Deborah Bennett, an ex-pupil of The Warren School, and Gary Charman, in June 1970.

Description

The Parish Church of St. Peter in Upper Beeding is seen. Two young men in suits, with red flowers pinned to to their lapels, walk towards the church. One of the men is the groom, Gary Charman. Three women in white suits and hats arrive, joining other guests gathered outside the church. The bride, Deborah Bennett, and her father arrive in a car. Deborah wears a full length white lace wedding dress and veil. The newly wedded young couple emerge from the church, followed by their guests. A photographer takes pictures of the couple, bridesmaid and family members. Guests look on and throw confetti wildly at the couple, before they leave in the car. The reception is held at Smugglers Farm in Worthing, the home of the bride's family. Guests gather in the sunny garden, full of colourful sunshades. They shake hands with the bride and her mother and father.
