Pictures centred around a young girl, the granddaughter of the home movie maker Vera Tidey, playing with her father and grandfather in the garden, baby Keith's christening, and a family trip to Shoreham-by-sea to paddle and eat ice creams. The "Southwater Belles" also perform a folk dance.

Janet, the film-maker's granddaughter, fills a small bucket with sand, emptying it out onto the patio of The Gables in Partridge Green. Her grandfather pats the sand into the bucket and turns out a castle, which Janet immediately destroys with a spade. The "Southwater Belles" perform a folk dance at Victory Road Recreation Ground in Horsham. They skip forward and back in partner formation, wearing red and tartan skirts and sashes.

Andrew Keith, the grandson of the film-maker, is christened at Trinity Church in Horsham. Family members stand together outside the church. Vera, smiling, holds her grandson and walks towards the camera. Several children play together in the family garden. Janet sits with blonde twins to eat sandwiches at a table on the patio, their feet and leather "Mary Jane" shoes dangling from their seats. The children play on a metal frame rocking horse and tricycles, circling the garden. Janet's grandfather, the husband of the film-maker, takes a turn on the rocking horse, grinning while smoking a pipe. The children gather round the newly christened baby with his mother, Wendy.

Mother and daughter visit an Agricultural Merchants, and walk across the forecourt. Janet plays on a roundabout in Partridge Green Park, where a cricket match is in play. At Shoreham-by-Sea, Janet and her grandmother Vera, the predominant camera operator, play in the shallow breakers and the family eat ice creams together. Janet plays with older girls in swimsuits, sitting on the sand as the waves rush up around them. Back at The Gables, the family play catch in the garden. Baby Keith chews his hands and smiles up at his mother Wendy, immaculate in a patterned skirt and white shirt.
