A fiction film by Albany Productions Film Unit, with narration, produced in 1988. The narratives of a chess game, child's toy fortress and figures, and a convict on the run, are told to mirror one another.

A chess set is seen from above. 'Consider this a battlefield, not a mere game.' says the narrator, 'And here, a hostile venue living up to its name.' A toy fortress and knights are seen, also from above. Different toy knights are seen. A station is seen, as a train passes above; 'commuters alighting here and there, the train moves off to who knows where...'. A sign reads 'Village News: Convict at large in the area of Southbridge. Please be on the lookout. Other News: Fancy dress ball at community centre tonight!' The film follows a man wearing boots through the village. A cottage is seen. Inside, a chess game is underway; 'nothing else matters until conclusion'. The convict is pursued by a man in costume with a sword. The chess games is seen, 'it remains quite even. While at the fortress, all is not well.' The man, oblivious to his pursuer, stops for a break. The chess game shows the black king is in danger, while an assault is underway at the toy fortress. The game continues as the costumed figure catches up with the convict. He enters the cottage where the chess game takes place. The costumed figure arrives. 'Suddenly it all comes right, both sides have bit the dust, the convict's chances have bit the dust... triple victory has been won by the knights in pursuit.' Accordion music plays. The End.
