This film shows the 1948 Olympics held at Wembley stadium. The film shows the opening ceremony and equestrian event and some of the closing ceremony. The film also features family scenes (not included in online clip) showing children with toys, fireworks on bonfire night, the Lord Mayor's Show, Christmas, baby scenes, a birthday and Kite flying.
John Bell's film of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1948 Olympics takes place in Wembley Stadium. The band of the Grenadier Guards plays while teams march into the stadium with the British team at the rear. Then doves are released. John Mark, bearing the Olympic Torch lights the flame and the games begin. Competitors are seen taking part in a horse jumping event after which the closing ceremony is show, with flags from all the countries borne into the stadium. The Olympic flag is lowered and the flame extinguished.
