Summary

Amateur film of family trips to sites of interest in Kent, Sussex and London.

Description

A family visit the 1965 Gillingham Steam Fair and Traction Engine Rally where the children enjoy a miniature train ride, the carousel, flying chairs, the helter-skelter, the big wheel and play on Duck themed amusements. A visit to Hever Castle and park follows along with a trip to Penshurst Place veteran vehicle exhibition. Several Bell 47 type glass bubble army helicopters are also on display with one filmed landing followed by a series of vintage cars and vehicles being filmed as they pass the film maker.

A pair of heavy horses are hitched reluctantly to a cart and the Chart Carrying Co. of Brasted, Kent steam powered omnibus, takes passengers on a ride around the grounds. Further shots of static vintage car displays follow.

The Bell 47 type helicopters (The Blue Eagles display team?) are filmed performing different manoeuvres in the sky, followed by the fleet of heavy horses pulling livery carts, a drive-past of all vehicles follows including a Penny Farthing bicycle, commercial vehicles, and miniature cars being driven by children.

Next the film maker makes a visit to Sheffield Park in autumn showing the main house and lake, followed by a visit to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich and the Prime Meridian Line in The Courtyard. The scene closes with a wide view of the Old Royal Naval College from on top of the hill in Greenwich Park.

The family next visit Leeds Castle, Kent in spring taking a trip on the lake in a small row boat, where two black swans and their nest can be seen among the flowers and waterfalls of the castle grounds.

A white wedding in a church follows, as a bride is taken to and from the church in a white Austin Maxi car. Close-up images of the wedding party having photographs taken in the churchyard, closing with scenes of a baby, and a toddler playing in the garden and family relaxing at home over cups of tea.

Stills

A still colour image taken from TID 10711, showing a wide view of an Army livery Bell 47 display team helicopter, with its glass fishbowl style cockpit, parked on the grass in front of the facade of Hever Castle. Two aircraft crew members, one stood either side of the helicopter, are dressed in flight suits preparing to board the aircraft.
