Collection Cyril Hayworth pt2
A further collection of Cyril Hayworth's Scouting and Guiding films, including: fetes, parades camps and events. The films show Haywards Heath, Balcombe, Slaugham, Forest Hill, and Sydenham branches within larger county camps. The collection also includes film of the wedding of his friends Mr and Mrs Forster.

During the Second World War, Cyril Hayworth made several films documenting the activities of both Scouting and Guiding groups from the Forest Hill and Sydenham areas of Greater London, with a handful of these films including material of war-time scenes of bombed out houses and churches, as well as the Scouts parading and marching between district parish churches.
Following the Second World War, Hayworth relocated to Sussex and spent time working as a Scoutmaster documenting his, and many other, Scouting and Guiding groups in the district, through parades, camps and other local events across Sussex, along with close friend and fellow Haywards Heath Scoutleader and Scoutmaster, Vic Forster.

This short colour film provides highlights of a Scout swimming competition in the pool at Sharrow Court School, Haywards Heath, watched by a gathering of friends and family around the pool. Several boys are awarded prizes at the end of the session. This film may be continued on TID: 9908.
[Horse Riding Display]
This edited short film shows 'Buck' Ryan demonstrating trick riding, vaulting and equestrian display gymnastics on horseback. Large crowds watch from around the arena in Victoria Park, in Haywards Heath. The next sequence shows a troop of Scouts [Slaugham Troop?] and a company of Guides parading through a churchyard towards a church [St Andrews Church, Burgess Hill?].
A short Scouting film shows a large troop awaiting the results from a hiking and camp contest. The winners are presented with a large ceramic jug [?]. This is followed by a montage of portrait shots of the winning groups.
[Guides Message of Friendship; Shopping Street; Beckenham Camp]
This film shows mixed groups of Guides and Scouts gathered at several campsites and on parade. The film opens with a Group of Guides gathered on Muster Green, receiving the Guide Scroll of Welcome which they pass round the district. The next film shows highlights of several parades and camp gatherings on the Ashenground site. The 18th Bechenham (Kent) Scouts visit a Sussex group of Sea Scouts at their camp.
[Summer Camp at Hartfield; Playing Rounders]
The film opens with a group playing several games of Rounders with a Stoolball bat and a short cricket bat in a field during a summer camp in Hartfield, followed by the group (1st Haywards Heath Cub Scouts) gathering in a camp site for lunch, with group portrait shots of family groups.
[Scout Hut Celebration; Competition at Ardingly; Camp at Small Dole]
This colour shows several rural camps and gatherings of Scout packs at Bolney, Ashenground, Haywards Heath, Ardingly and Small Dole. The camps are inter-cut with shots of flowering plants and flowers in woodlands.

This film includes: children in fancy dress for a School event; the exterior of Worth Priory School and gardens; 1st Senior Scouts clearing a woodland; shots of animals on a smallholding; Beachy Head Lighthouse near Eastbourne; a rural church surrounded by longhaired Highland Cattle; steam trains on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway; coastal views with donkey rides on the beach at Bexhill-on-Sea and Seaford [?]; and domestic scenes of a family group in a garden.

[Insignias; Inspection; Headquarters Opening]
This colour and black and white film shows scenes from various Scouting and Guiding films from the Sussex region. The first is an award ceremony and adult scouting meeting at a camp site, followed by the opening of a building (Scout and Guide headquarters ?) by a Senior Guiding leader.

This colour film shows the 1st Haywards Heath Scout camp in Horsham, followed by the 1st Haywards Heath Scouts at a camp in Handcross training to win the Hardy Cup, with close-ups of mixed camp activities and portrait shots of family and friends on camp.
[St George's Day Parade at Handcross and Slaugham]

This short edited film shows a St George's Day Scouting parade on Handcross High Street led by a Scout marching band, with several troops of local Scouts, Cubs and a company of Guides in procession carrying their flags. The next sequence shows a brief shot of the English flag of St George, followed by a parade of Cub/Scouts from Slaugham, Balcombe, Bolney, Lindfield and Haywards Heath. The Guides carry a flag for the Balcombe Company.
[Girl Guide Parade and Inspection; Boy Scout Competition]
This film shows a company of Guides outside St Andrew's Church, in Burgess Hill. This is followed by a parade exiting a church after a service. Three Guide leaders head the parade into the Churchyard. The Minister and two Scout leaders are filmed along with a series of meet-and-greet inspections in the churchyard. The final part shows a Scout prize giving ceremony [Hardy Cup?] being awarded to the Slaugham troop with spectators.

This film shows a British Legion Fete in Victoria Park. Scenes include music and parades from the Haywards Heath and District Scouts' Band, a miniature train [a Southern Engine?], Children's' sporting events, gymnastic displays by the Central Council of Physical Recreation; Buck Ryan handing out leaflets dressed in a cowboy outfit, and a display of rope skills.

A film of Scouting field activities at Bolney and Haywards Heath camp sites, accompanied by family and friends joining in with the children's activities. Scenes include portrait shots of several boys, young toddlers and family groups watching the activities and assisting with camp chores at both sites.
