Collection Cyril Hayworth pt2
A further collection of Cyril Hayworth's Scouting and Guiding films, including: fetes, parades camps and events. The films show Haywards Heath, Balcombe, Slaugham, Forest Hill, and Sydenham branches within larger county camps. The collection also includes film of the wedding of his friends Mr and Mrs Forster.

During the Second World War, Cyril Hayworth made several films documenting the activities of both Scouting and Guiding groups from the Forest Hill and Sydenham areas of Greater London, with a handful of these films including material of war-time scenes of bombed out houses and churches, as well as the Scouts parading and marching between district parish churches.
Following the Second World War, Hayworth relocated to Sussex and spent time working as a Scoutmaster documenting his, and many other, Scouting and Guiding groups in the district, through parades, camps and other local events across Sussex, along with close friend and fellow Haywards Heath Scoutleader and Scoutmaster, Vic Forster.

[Sussex County Camp; Acrobatic Display; Scouting Parade]

This black and white film shows the Stanmer Park Sussex County Rally, with events speeches and demonstrations. A smaller Cub Scout gathering shows the boys under a flagpole reciting the Scout oath, followed by shots of the group taking part in several sporting activities and games outside a parish church. The film ends with scenes of a couple in a domestic garden.

This colour film opens with a Sussex County Scouting Rally at Whitsun with Lord Rowallan inspecting the sites with County Commissioner Colonel Hickie, and Field Commander for Sussex 'Uncle Bill' Genese. Views of the event include several parades, presentations, displays and performing arts demonstrations on the field in front of Stanmer House.
[Scout and Guide Parade at Cuckfield; Guide Parade Inspection at Haywards Heath]
Guides and Scouts parade in the street and into in the grounds of the Holy Trinity Church, Cuckfield with church lych gate in the background, followed by a parade of Guides in Haywards Heath (St Wilfrid's Church) and by a Guide leaders inspection of various companies, with William John Genese (?).

This edited Scouting based film shows a series of training courses for adult Scout leaders in Haywards Heath. The group way-find by orienteering through rural and urban parts of Haywards Heath, gathering at their Scout hut and camp between sessions.
[Football Match on Handcross Rec.; Borde Hill Camp; Handcross Church Parade]
The film shows a group of Scouts and Cubs from the 1st Haywards Heath troop playing a football match in Handcross. At a Scout camp in the grounds of Borde Hill, the group relax and play sports. The group later parade through Handcross Village to All Saint's Church, with other local Scout and Guide packs.

This black and white film opens with views of the interior of the Royal Albert Hall, London where a large group of Scouts sing and perform in the round (possibly a London Gang Show or 'Boy Scout' Pagent by Ralph Reader ?).
[County Camp Competition]
This film shows several Sussex based Scouting groups (Boy Scout and Sea Scout) setting up camp near the village of Small Dole, Sussex, and undertaking demonstrations and drills. This film features several patrols of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts from across the Sussex District.
[Scout Camp Activities]
This film shows views of several Cubs and Scouts preparing camp on Ashenground campsite, (Balcombe and Slaugham ?) followed by views of various activities, a prize-giving presentation and views of the woodland plants and flowers around the site.
This edited colour and black and white film features a Scouting pack at the Twyford Scout Camp. The film opens with views of the River Thames, a lock surrounded by flowers and mixed views of a church. The film also includes views of the River Loddon and the Ford across the Old River, Twyford followed by mixed views of the Scouts setting up camp in a large field and playing games and sports with their families.
[Telham County Rally]
This edited film provides highlights of the 1st Haywards Heath pack outing to Battle village en route to the Sussex Scouting and Guiding County Rally at Telham; closing with highlights of the various parades and performances on the Telham camp.
[St George's Day Parade at Balcombe]
This edited film shows scenes from the St George's Day parade at Balcombe with marching bands passing a group of senior leaders and VIP's along a road. Speeches and salutes followed by a second parade along Lindfield High Street adjacent to All Saints Church and The Bent Arms Hotel.

This colour film shows a village fair at Balcombe House attended and supported by local district Scouts and Guides. The Scouts and Guides perform and demonstrate several activities for the watching public.
[Sussex Scouting Camp]
This colour film opens with wide landscape views of a small Scout campsite in the Sussex countryside (?). The boys undertake camp chores that include washing dishes, preparing food, hauling wood for camp fires and building wooden structures to be used around camp. Upon returning from a walk, several older boys sit together on camp, with other adults. The group play a game of Rounders (?) formed of Boy Scout verses adult teams.
[Campsite Singing Performance]
This short black and white film shows a Scout choir, singing at a campsite in Findon, in front of an audience and views of a Scout camp fire at night.
