Collection David R. Durant Films
A collection of family films by Sussex based amateur film-maker David R. Durant. They include family holidays across Sussex, the West Country, Wales, Germany and France in the 1970s to early 1980s. The Sussex based collection also shows the wreck of Athena B on Brighton Beach and Durant's family at Chessington Zoo in the late 1970s. A series of transport films includes a car rally and several local air shows and displays.

An edited compilation of shots, some in slow motion, of a woman swimming in the sea and stepping out to walk up the the beach in a floral bikini; followed by a series of shots showing flowers, a grasshopper 'chirping', a fly (?) on a plant, and a busy ants nest (shots are shaky and out of focus).

The first part of this film [not included in online clip] shows a girl on a blanket in garden [out of focus]; girl climbing a tree; a group by a pond. The second part [included in online clip] shows an air show at dusk on Brighton Seafront with the RAF Red Arrows flying in a diamond and Wineglass 1 formation with smoke; views of the aircraft over Palace Pier; two Arrows flying crossover together; RAF Red arrows in a spiral roll (?) with close-ups of aircraft as they fly over the sea.

This edited amateur film shows a series of commercial and military aircraft in flight during an aerial display at Shoreham Airfield (?) in the 1970s.
This amateur silent film features family outings to the Ashdown Forest and the nearby Sheffield Park Garden, that includes portrait shots of the family on a walk in the countryside and shots of lambs in a field. The entire family are seen sitting on a rug at the end of the film.

This short film features several family visits that includes a Steam Rally at Tinkers Park, Hadlow Down in East Sussex (?) and a visit to Borde Hill, West Sussex during the late 1970s. Shots include close-ups of several Steam traction engines, tractors, standing engines, a motorcycle stunt rider in slow motion, trade stalls and jumble sale. The final part of the film shows two children playing in the garden at Borde Hill.
This amateur family compilation shows a camping holiday to a rural location and seaside views of a caravan resort overlooking a beach from a cliff top; views of the children building sand castles on a beach and views of the rocky coastline [possibly Woolacombe, North Devon?]. Children standing on the balcony of an ornate house and playing on a large dinosaur in a playground [?] returning to shots of the campsite.

This film opens with a continuation of the family horse riding outing from The Three Grays Horse Riding stables, Pyecombe, with the group being led across a busy road [also on 7826]. The next sequence show a family group walking in a field, a view of a rural tree lined hill top and slow motion shots of a young boy jumping up and down on a rural wooden bridge. The final shot shows waves lapping over the concrete caissons at Brighton Marina [Black Rock].
[Holiday in France]
An amateur film from the 1970s featuring a camping holiday to France. Three men travel from the hovercraft terminal at Dover to France and are seen relaxing on holiday as well as visiting Paris.
