Description
This amateur collection by British film-maker Maurice Puttock, captures family life in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) with his wife and two children from the 1950s to mid 1960s; before returning to the UK. Puttock continued making amateur films upon his return, Joining the Haywards Heath Cine & Video Society and participating in local amateur film competitions. Several of his fiction films feature in the Haywards Heath Cine & Video Society collections held by Screen Archive South East.
Noted films from Puttock's time in Northern Rhodesia/ Zambia, include several agricultural shows; tours of game parks and nature reserves in Lusaka, Luangwa, Luambe and Chilongozi; royal visits by HM The Queen, Elizabeth II and HM Elizabeth, The Queen Mother at state events; and Northern Rhodesia's independence from British Rule in 1967.
Other films show the family's home in Lusaka with a small gauge model railway in the family garden, the children's Woodland School Sports day events and the family's return trip to England via train from Lusaka to Cape Town, and ship to Southampton, England.

A travel film showing various animals on two wildlife reserves (Luambe and Chilongozi) in Zambia, that includes several species of birds, Zebra, Elephants, Hippopotamus, and Rhino. Views follow of several traditional thatched huts in a camp, returning to views of a group of Giraffe in a wooded landscape closing with views from a moving car on a dirt track down a rural hillside on route to a camp.

A film of scenes showing a car journey from a game camp to Big Lagoon Camp passing through Fort Jameson (now Chipata) in Zambia, travelling by car along several rural roads up a mountain side. The film-maker uses the milestones denoting distance to Fort Jameson to show his progress along the journey. Continuing on to a second camp at Nsefu, the film-maker captures views of the animals on the reserve finally arriving at Big Lagoon Camp by car.

This amateur documentary about the film-maker's hobby of "0" gauge model railways shows the design and build of his own line in his garden in Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). The film includes the construction of the track from concrete, building the intricate locomotives and carriages. The film has a detailed voice-over narrative and instrumental music throughout.
