In this collection, scenes from both the family life and military working life of Kenneth Lockwood are shown between the 1930s and early 1940s. The film-maker focuses on his time spent with family in Felpham and with his squadron from the Queen's Royal (West) Surrey regiment, undergoing military exercises as well as entertaining themselves whilst off-duty. Mr Lockwood's films also feature friends and colleagues of the RAF 43 (Fighter) Squadron, the 'Fighting Cocks', undertaking aerial displays and off-duty following training.
Captain Lockwood served with the 6th Battalion, Queen's Royal (West) Surrey Regiment prior to and during the Second World War, but was captured and held at Laufen Castle in Bavaria and later at Oflag IVC in Eastern Germany (known as Colditz) during the conflict. Despite many attempts, he was unable to escape until he was liberated by United States forces in 1945.
During his later years, Captain Lockwood was the Secretary for the Colditz Association for 50 years until 2006 when he retired, receiving an MBE in 1990 for his work.
