Description
This collection of amateur family films by Norman Harold Steed, MBE JP (1908 - 1997), provides a portrait of family and working life on their farm, 'Spratling Court', in Manston in Kent and on several Kent farm estates belonging to the wider family, between 1945 and 1969. The collection begins with VE day celebrations and goes on to document the children growing up, life on the farm, weddings, christenings and family holidays.

This short black and white film provides highlights of grain harvesting using a mechanised process of combine-harvesters on Ozengall Farm, adjacent to Spratling Court Farm, Kent. The children join the workers on the farm and play in the cut straw.

This colour film opens with the family on a packed beach possibly at Botany Bay, Kent. A young boy gets undressed to put his swimwear on, with the help of an adult, whilst the rest of the family have a picnic. Double exposure at end of film. The film is shaky with a shallow depth of field throughout.
