SASE in the Region
SASE serves the South East of England as represented geographically by the local authorities of Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, Kent, Medway, Surrey and West Sussex. Its primary partner is the West Sussex Record Office at Chichester. This is where SASE’s Conservation Centre is based and the collection is housed within a purpose-built media vault. The archive also has an alliance with the Wessex Film & Sound Archive (part of the Hampshire Record Office), the region’s other public sector film archive. In the region, SASE is in partnership with the Royal Pavilion and Museums (Brighton & Hove), The Keep – the East Sussex Record Office, Kent History and Library Centre, Medway Archives & Local Studies Centre and the Surrey History Centre. Together we continue to develop a moving image collection for the region which is informed by the other resources held by our partners.
SASE in the UK and Europe
SASE is involved in advocacy activities related to the advancement of publicly-funded film / screen archives in the UK. It plays an active role in Film Archives UK, the Magic Lantern Society and the British Film Institute’s Film Audience Network (FAN). It also makes significant films from its collection available via three online platforms:
SASE’s core activities are made possible through the University of Brighton’s annual investment in staffing and accommodation and the provision of facilities and services. The local authorities of Kent, Surrey and West Sussex and the British Film Institute (BFI) also contribute annual revenue support. Project work undertaken by SASE and Cinecity has been funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council, Arts Council England, the BFI, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the European Commission.
