The first part of Mr and Mrs Gowlland film of their holiday with friends, touring around Europe in their car, visiting France, Monaco, Switzerland, and Austria. They pass through Reims, Dijon, Juan Les Pins, Cannes, and Nice in France. After Monte Carlo, they travel to Ascona, the Rhone valley and Luzern in Switzerland and Brand in Austria.

A film of the Gowlland family in the Summer of 1954 on various outings. The family visit Brands Hatch to watch motor racing and take a trip to London to visit Buckingham Palace. The family are seen in the garden having tea and the children play near a sign saying: 'Danger Deep Excavation'. They also watch the London to Brighton Veteran car run, at the finish line on the seafront near Maderia Drive.

Traveling around the countryside by car, they visit the city of Bergen; travel through the Jotunheimen mountains and past fjords including Hardangerfjord and Sognefjord and see a glacier and locals in traditional costume. They visit Lillehammer and Oslo, where they meet up with another couple and visit Vigeland Sculpture Park.

The family members indulge in various pass-times on a visit to the beach at Middleton near Bognor Regis, and stay at a holiday cottage there. They also visit Bodiam Castle, Rye, Chichester and go to the races at Kempton Park in October.
