Summary

This colour travelog style documentary film, made with commentary and music, shows highlights of a three day visit to Venice, by Gilbert and Mary Tomes aboard a gondola, touring the Piazzas, Campi and historical buildings along the Grand Canal.

Description

The couple tour Venice from aboard a gondola, a motorboat and on foot; visiting the Piazzas, Campi and historical buildings along the Grand Canal. Sights include the Ponte di Rialto, San Giorgio Maggiore; Lido Island and Piazza San Marco with San Marco Basilica, Clock tower, Ponte dei Sospiri and Santa Maria della Salute. The tour continues with an overview of the Doges' Palace and magistrate buildings in Piazza San Marco. Later the couple board a gondola, taking in the lesser known spots on the narrow canals away from the bustling Piazza; continuing onto the Guidecca canal past the La Calcina or John Ruskin Hotel.

The final part of the film shows a humorous version of the extended transport methods required for tourists and visitors to get from the Italian mainland to Venice by car, parking in a large multi-story car park and tipping several people to escort, carry and transport visitors over to Venice; closing on a summary of the architecture and canals on the island.
