Contextual information

'Mädel im Landjahr' or 'Girl in the Country Year' was made for the Reich Education Ministry. Designed for urban-based girls aged 13-14 years who had just left school without an apprenticeship, the goal of the ‘country year’ was to provide these young women with rural skills in the context of a Nazi education. The film was supplemented by a nine-chapter booklet provided by the Reich Office to instruct prospective candidates about the programme.
