Summary

This film opens with a group of elderly and disabled people on holiday at the Riviera Lido Holiday Club, playing games and socialising with the holiday club entertainment manager. The group go on a day out to a park and feed the ducks. A family visit to Thorpe Park follows, along with the August bank holiday Balcombe Village fair and a family on a day out to Nymans Gardens, West Sussex.

Description

"Riviera Lido Holiday Club"

The film opens with a sign for the: ‘Riviera Lido Holiday Club’, Pagham, as a group of eldery and disabled adults in wheelchairs arrive at the site. The holiday camp scenes are intercut with a group outing to feed ducks on a pond, and taking part in egg-and-spoon races, wheelchair and relay races, and a tug-of-war on a green. Back at the holiday club the group are with the club entertainer (in a blue T-shirt). The groups divide off, with one group preparing to leave the camp on a coach 'Coseley Fellowship of the Physically Handicapped' as the holiday camp entertainer dances with a upright vacuum cleaner in the courtyard, followed by shots of the elderly passengers boarding a series of coaches and posing for the camera.

An intertitle reads: ' We arrive'. A coach with a group of senior adults arrives at Thorpe Park. The entrance is busy with other coaches and buses parking and letting their passengers off. There is a view of a playground and children's fairground amusements, plus a roller coaster with children on board, followed by a sign for 'Teddy Bear land', with shots of a boating lake, a water-skier and pleasure craft. "Balcombe Fete"

The next section opens with views of a sign: 'Balcombe Fete at the Recreation Ground on August Bank Holiday Monday 2pm' followed by views of several young people sitting on a bench, pony rides, views of several stalls selling items and shots of children playing in a children's playground. The sequence also shows mixed portrait shots of a group of older men and women posing for the camera at a stall (very shaky) and stroking a donkey. This section ends with shots of a group of boys laughing as they make inappropriate hand gestures towards the camera.

"Nymans Gardens"

The final section opens with the sign: 'National Trust Nymans Gardens' with the family on a day out, eating ice cream and admiring the plants. Mixed shots show exterior views of the gardens and ruined house at Nymans, with groups of visitors enjoying the day in the sunshine on the grass. Intertitle: 'The End'.
