Summary

Scenes of a Rudd family cruise, seaside trip and school sports matches filmed over a period of four years by Mr. and Mrs. Rudd.

Description

Passengers and crew play cricket on the deck of a cruise ship. Middle Eastern workers, wearing caps and linen clothing, use a hoist to pull up rigging on board. The camera pans to the mast towering above. Views of the coast line follow. Women play cricket on board. A village, nestled between hills on the coast is seen from the ship. Men and women climb on board from a dingy beside the boat. Further cricket games follow. Domestic garden scenes follow.

The flower beds are in full bloom. Red and yellow tulips are seen. Susan, now in her teenage years, is seen in the garden, tall in a summer dress. Christopher plays with a collie dog. The house at Bramley, Surrey, is shown in panorama. The green lawn and flower beds spread out beneath an open window. Susan and Christopher are seen on a beach on the South Coast. White cliffs rise up behind them. They paddle in the water and sit with Mrs. Rudd on the beach. Mr. Rudd throws stones into the sea with Christopher. Children play in a dinghy. Christopher carries Susan onto a boat in the water. In footage taken a few years later, Susan [?] is seen in a smart mid 1950s frock and hat in the dappled shade of the garden. Scenes of chickens in a pen and chicks just hatched follow. A tennis match at a public school is in play. Boys wear school uniforms and their parents are seen watching the matches. Christopher, long-limbed, tall and blonde, plays a match against another boy and a doubles match. Susan and Christopher are seen in the garden with the collie.
