This film contains footage from four holidays taken by the Dickins family between 1958 and 1959. The family visit Cadenabbia in Italy, and go camping in Brighton, Scotland and Dorset.
1958 The film opens with a title shot 'Italy, Cadenabbia, 1958', and we first see mountainous landscapes and valleys. There is a shot of the family at a cafe by Lake Como, followed by images of John and Joan Dickins swimming in the lake. We see a large town from above followed by images of people strolling along a city street and looking round a garden in full bloom.
1959 Another title shot appears with the words 'Brighton, 1959'. This short section of film contains images of a caravan park and the Black Rock swimming pool viewed from the cliff top.
Another title shot appears at this point, reading 'Scotland, 1959'. A camper van is loaded with luggage, before the film cuts to the van parked on a sunny day with Gladys Dickins washing dishes inside. There are several scenes from a visit to Jedburgh Abbey, as well as shots of the campers and views of moorland. There is a shot of a deserted white sand beach from above, and several shots of sheep including some that run across the road in front of the camper van.
The last holiday featured on this film has the title shot 'Mudeford', and contains scenes from a holiday to Dorset that Ernest and Gladys Dickins' took with friends. We see cars driving into a caravan park, a shot of both swans and swimmers in the water, and lobster traps by the shore. Crowds are seen on a beach covered in deck chairs, and the holiday group are shown having a picnic amongst sand dunes.
