These two films made by Mr and Mrs Hammond document the Chichester District Girl Guides visits to Holland and Paris in the 1960s.
"Guides visit to Holland 1963"
The opening shot shows a group of girl guides disembarking from a ferry in Holland, wearing their uniform. It then cuts to the girls in Amsterdam, now out of uniform, leaving their hotel. There follows footage of canals, houses and other architecture in Amsterdam. The guides visit the village of Volendam, and there are street scenes with people in traditional Dutch dress. At Madurodam, the group visit a model city, and there are shots of a miniature motor way, with traffic moving on the road, and fields of flowers representing the flower-growing industry in the Netherlands. There follows footage of a campsite where the Chichester guides met with a Dutch guide group. One of the guides sings and plays guitar, and the guides eat food cooked at the camp. There are shots of a playground, with girls on a seesaw, street scenes and further shots of architecture in Amsterdam. The final shots are of the exterior of the hotel, and the guides again on the ferry, this time disembarking on their arrival home in the UK.
"Guides visit to Paris 1965"
We see a panning shot of the guides on the deck of a ferry, and a view of Dieppe as they approach France. The group are seen leaving the ferry on a foot passenger ramp. The film cuts to the girls leaving their hotel and walking along the street. There follows various scenes of Paris, including footage of the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Eiffel Tower, landscaped gardens and street scenes. Some of the guides are seen on the observation deck of the Eiffel Tower, and there are views of Paris below. We also see several of the girls paddling their feet in a lake on a visit to Versailles. There is a close up of a metro sign for Montmatre, and the film closes with footage of the group on the street, and a closing title 'The End'.
