Summary

An amateur film recording people and places in Lindfield during the 1940s.

Description

The film opens with images of farm animals; of pigs, dairy cows and sheep. The house and grounds of Old Place are filmed. A small domesticated monkey on a lead searches for fleas on a docile Alsatian. A family ride aboard the miniature train of Deans Mill Railway. Lindfield pond has iced over, allowing children to skate and play on it. Snow covers the village buildings, including All Saints Church and Old Place. A marching band joins in a torchlight procession through the village. Three men dressed in drag and a woman with a blackened face play to the camera beside the pond - the men do acrobatics on the waterside railings. A brief colour section films border flowers, and autumnal trees and plants.
