The film opens with scenes of the family enjoying a day out at Petworth House, the adults and children explore the parkland and forage for wild mushrooms. The children chase a large flock of birds which take to the air. In the garden at home the children play with a railway set; shots of the train going around the track which has been set up on the lawn. A group of children, assisted by their mother construct dress a friend up as a guy and build a pretend bonfire with cardboard boxes and straw. The children pretend to light the bonfire, at which point the guy runs off, he turns to chase the children. Shots of the children playing with puppets on strings, following which they play leapfrog. The children's father, unsuccessfully attempts to hula hoop. Back at Petworth Park, there are shots of a child's garter laying on the ground; the parents retrieve it. Shots of the lake and the mother petting a tortoise. Shots of a toddler throwing straw over a pet cat and hiding crawling under a blanket in the garden. The girls play on wooden stilts. Shots of children emerging from South Bersted Church, followed by the girls picking dandelions. The Petworth Stool Ball club can be seen playing in a field, before the film returns to scenes of children at home in the garden and walking in a landscaped park. The film cuts to shots of the County Fair, shots of horses pulling carriages and a marching band on the show ground. Close-ups of the children eating and looking at farm machinery. The end section of the film shows the family enjoying a visit to Bracklesham Bay; they play on the beach and a rescue helicopter passes overhead. The film ends with a shot of one of the children using binoculars and views of the countryside from a moving vehicle.
