Summary

Footage of a family at home and on outings over the year. Includes scenes by the sea during summer and sledging in winter. There is also footage of a school sports day.

Description

The film opens with the family cats playing in the house and garden. A group of young children are riding ponies. There is a bonfire burning at night with firecrackers in the background.

In the summer, a man gives the children food to feed the donkey with before they ride it. In winter, children and adults take it in turns to sledge and ski down a hill. There is a school dance performance. People are sat on the grass and chairs watching.

There is a boating lake and seaside fairground. Children ride the Ferris Wheel. Footage of Dover Castle (?) and Ashdown Forest. The family ride a steam train. They walk along the South Downs. At the beach, a boy and girl dive off wooden posts into the sea. We see the Rottingdean to Saltdean Undercliff walk. The family dry themselves with towels under the sea wall.

In Autumn (?), the family walk in the countryside. There is footage of a school sports day. School girls then Brownies dance round a May Pole. There is a ring throwing game beside the sea. The family have a picnic beside a seaside cabin.

The film includes footage almost certainly filmed aboard British Railways' cross-Channel steamer ‘Brighton’ in 1965, since ‘Falaise’ (entered Newhaven-Dieppe service 1964) and Valencay’/’Villandry’ (entered service 1965) are filmed from the ship. The latter is shown just outside Dieppe. Footage includes the boat sailing into Dieppe Avant Port.

Children fly kites on a hill. Panorama of Sussex Downs. Sports games include a relay race. Views of a castle (Hastings [?]). In the garden, there is a swimming pool and building work. There are views of the garden from above and the landscape beyond.
