Home movie material from the 1930s and 1940s which records members of the Flavell family and their friends partaking in various leisure time activities during the summer months. The compilation contains some early non-red Kodachrome.
A multigenerational group of friends and family are filmed on several outings to a beach hut at Bognor Regis. Whilst there the adults and children swim in the sea, play in the shallows and build sandcastles.
Children play in the garden of a family home. The young girls compete in egg-and-spoon races, perform handstands and throw hoops to an adult female. The family also play tennis on the lawn before two men are filmed mowing it. A baby is filmed in its pushchair with the family gathered around.
The family go on an outing to Cowdray Park where they get out of their car to feed the local deer. They also go blackberry picking, and pick the wild flowers in a field. There is also brief footage of a caravan holiday on a farm.
An amateur cricket match takes place. The film ends with images of Sandmartins, a house at Craigwell. A woman is filmed gardening and the camera captures images of the sea, Marine Gardens and the road from a window on an upper floor of the house.
