Summary

An amateur record of the Surrey Council Council Garden Party held at Wotton House on 19th July 1963. Guests enjoy a fashion show, an exhibition on the role played by the Council in the County's countryside, a sit-down meal and a gymnastics display.

Description

Smartly dressed guests, including an Asian couple (Guests of Honour?), arrive in the grounds of Wotton House. They mingle whilst a brass band plays on. Lt Col H.J. Wells, the Chairman of Surrey County Council is also present. The guests enjoy a sit-down meal in the marquee before young women model a range of historical and contemporary dresses on a raised part of the grounds. Some of the guests explore an exhibition of photographs, maps and other information entitled "Surrey County Council in the Countryside. An exhibition illustrating the importance of the County Council in protecting the countryside, bringing essential services to rural areas and encouraging the rural economy." The film ends with images of the guests watching children giving a gymnastics display.
