A compilation of home movie material with intertitles which includes footage of family holidays and a young soldier returning home on leave.
The film opens with footage of a family holiday to Herne Bay in 1938 where the film-maker captures a paddle-steamer coming into harbour, a woman having a picnic and man looking through binoculars.
Family members utilize the River Thames at Walton, swimming and canoeing, feeding the swans, and filming the motor cruisers which traverse the waters. A man and woman are also filmed on the riverbank, doing acrobatics in their swimming costumes. On another occasion adults are seen Woking in the river near a weir, and using a small rubber dinghy.
In the summer of 1934 elderly members of the family are seen having tea and playing cards in the garden. There is also footage of Bob who poses for the camera in his Home Guard uniform.
