Summary

Family scenes filmed in the 1930s in London and Surrey. Much of the footage is filmed in a park with deer, seemingly unfazed by the family's presence. Interior, picnic and domestic garden scenes are also included.

Description

A young child in a coat and hat runs towards the camera. She appears from behind a tree, at which a suited man with spectacles and hat stands. The little girl kneels with a woman in the grass. They talk together at the foot of a tree. The woman places a notebook back into her leather handbag. The little girl is seen in interior scenes with her doll and looking at the ground with her mother. Deer are seen in the park, grazing and looking up to the camera. A man stands with a stills camera, feeding the deer. The little girl plays on a tree stump. London street scenes follow. Buses, bicycles and pedestrians are seen on a busy high street. A policeman conducts the traffic, striding slowly into the road. An Underground station is seen. Terriers are shown at close distance in interior footage. Family members have gathered in a domestic garden. The little girl, wearing a bonnet and dress, is kissed by a family member. The family visit a chemist. Two women in fur coats walk in a park with the little girl, pointing into the distance. They are seen standing by a motorcar. Three generations of women walk together in the park; mother, grandmother and granddaughter. A deer walks towards the camera and up to the little girl, who is nervous around the animals. The deer eats from the little girl's hand. Motorcars are seen driving on a road behind. Her father is seen, previously behind the camera, with the little girl and her grandmother. Family scenes at a modern house in Surrey follow. The little girl plays with her doll and family members are seen outside. "Phantom ride" footage follows, shot from a train window and passing industrial areas and country fields, stations and streets. Interior footage follows. A woman slices white bread at a table laid for tea. A couple are seen by a motorcar in a field. They are joined by further family members, including three children, for a picnic. The children play on cushions and walk in the woods. An older couple are seen with a baby in a domestic garden.
