Summary

This film shows several non-mechanised and mechanised processes of sowing and harvesting a corn and mustard crop on a Sussex farm; by adults and children. The film is inter-cut with a scene featuring a fleet of aircraft passing over head (shots out of focus) and intertitles throughout.

Description

The title reads 'Heronsdale Manor 1942 Harvest'. This is followed by shots of several men bailing corn stalks, and shots of a tractor with threshing attachment, working a field. The film is inter-cut with scenes of a squadron of aircraft passing overhead (possibly RAF Hurricanes on Dieppe raid?), returning to shots of two men and two boys gleaning bails of corn stalks from a field whilst the men bail them onto the back of a tractor by pitch fork. Several boys then sit in the back of a truck eating lunch and a Fordson tractor pulling the overloaded corn stalk cart.

intertitle: 'Heronsdale Manor 1942 Ploughing-in mustard'. Scenes show a tractor with tilling attachment, turning-in mustard plants into the soil. The camera captures close-ups of the tiller attachment in action from the back of the tractor.

Intertitle: 'Heronsdale Manor 1942 Drilling Wheat' Scenes of a worker driving a tractor with a drilling attachment on the rear of his vehicle across a field.

Intertitle: 'Heronsdale Manor 1942 Sowing seeds by barrow'. Shots showing a non-mechanised process of a man walking a field sewing seeds from a seed barrow.
