This collection of amateur family films by Norman Harold Steed, MBE JP (1908 - 1997), provides a portrait of family and working life on their farm, 'Spratling Court', in Manston in Kent and on several Kent farm estates belonging to the wider family, between 1945 and 1969. The collection begins with VE day celebrations and goes on to document the children growing up, life on the farm, weddings, christenings and family holidays.

This black and white and colour film, shows children playing in a courtyard and garden, a boy climbing a tree, a christening, a party, a family gathering in a garden, and a tennis party.
[VE Day at Manston Grove; Farming; Family at Northdown]
This edited colour and black and white film shows views of a VE day celebration; a group of women potato seeding on a farm; a gathering in a garden for a family portrait photograph and views of children playing.

This colour and black and white film shows scenes of two children and a toddler playing with a dog and a cat at Spratling Court Farm, followed by scenes of a family gathering at Finglesham. Scenes of the family celebrating Christmas together at Spratling Court, shows several interior shots of the children in the living room playing and opening presents (?). The film ends with he group bringing in a Christmas tree from the garden.
[First Ozengall Harvest]
This short black and white film provides highlights of grain harvesting using a mechanised process of combine-harvesters on Ozengall Farm, adjacent to Spratling Court Farm, Kent. The children join the workers on the farm and play in the cut straw.
This colour film opens with the family on a packed beach possibly at Botany Bay, Kent. A young boy gets undressed to put his swimwear on, with the help of an adult, whilst the rest of the family have a picnic. Double exposure at end of film. The film is shaky with a shallow depth of field throughout.

This colour and black and white family film shows a family on a seaside holiday, in Botany Bay, Broadstairs. The film also shows mixed views of a mare and foal in a field, a child playing with its shadow, playing in a muddy puddle, and a baby in a pram. The final film taken in 1950 at Spratling Court Farm, shows two children playing in the garden on a blanket with their toys.
This family film shows a young boy playing on a wooden hobby horse next to a girl cleaning a horse riding saddle. The second film shows a wedding party gathering in front of the church, the couple leaving in a car and the wedding guests and bridesmaids after the ceremony.

This black and white film features several children playing on a large garden lawn. One child skips with a rope, whilst another poses under a tree. A baby crawls about on the lawn dressed in a large bonnet.

This colour and black and white film opens with children digging and making mud pies in the garden at Manston Grove, followed by a sequence of long portrait shots of a young girl and a Labrador dog (Sooty) in the garden. The second film shows highlights of a Seaside outing to Pegwell Bay in Ramsgate where the family are dressed in woollen winter clothing on the beach.
[East Northdown House]
This film, shows a large family gathering at East Northdown Farm, Kent where the family watch a Punch and Judy show in the garden. Two boys blow up balloons in front of the Punch and Judy box and the group sit around small tables in the garden for afternoon tea. The family also gather together for extended family photographs in front of the main house.

This colour film opens in the family garden at Northdown House, Mr and Mrs Steed (Senior) pose for photographs. Mrs Steed is in a wheelchair. The next shot shows the family gathered outside the house with several children playing amongst the flowers and roses.
