A two-disc DVD set includes selected oral history recordings from people living on the West Sussex coast, captured by Screen Archive South East in 2012/13. The DVD brings these oral histories together with local archive films from Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Shoreham-by-Sea, and Worthing.
These archive films include home movies, newsreels and cine society films of everyday life from the 1930s to the 1960s.
The DVD is not available to buy, however it was distributed free across the region in 2013 and can be accessed through most West Sussex libraries and archives.

About the Project
In 2012/13 Screen Archive South East was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to lead an exciting 12 month community history project in the seaside towns of the West Sussex coast.
The Movies and Memories project, staged a series of events and activities using our collection of archive film to stimulate memories, stories, reminiscences and oral histories. The project’s activities focused on the older generation who have a strong connection with the region’s past.

You can view film clips from the DVD here on our website, including a video introduction to the project and oral history extracts with accompanying archive films on the subject of wartime, childhood, events, seaside and weddings; and on living in Bognor, Littlehampton, Worthing and Shoreham.
You can hear additional samples of oral history recordings captured as part of the project on the project’s legacy website.
Screen Archive South East thanks all of its donors and depositors for enabling us to undertake this community work. The Heritage Lottery Fund provided this project with key funding and support.
